DVC 3: A Community Exhibition

Being an artist and designer myself, I love expressing myself through unconventional forms of art and design like fashion, makeup, music, and interior design. The way we dress, our personal spaces, and the music we listen to tell a lot about us and who we are. These are some of the many ways we, as creatives, express ourselves and our creativity. So while exploring this concept of community, I chose to focus on the community of creatives around me who use these as ways to express themselves. Each album focused on a creative, their fashion (makeup if they wear any), homes, music, favorite colors, and how they describe their style. This is what I am calling someone’s visual language, a way to express ourselves and tell others who we are through visual means. I chose to depict this through album booklets, as music is a universal language, and albums and the music within tell a story much like someone’s visual aesthetic.

I consider a creative person who creates something to put out into the world. This does not limit it to just artists and designers, as we are not the only ones who create, but extends to writers, crafters, architects, interior designers, etc. We all use creativity differently, but at the end of the day, we have a passion for creating something, and we choose to put that out into the world.
